Adobe Sensei is Adobe’s long-established AI/ML engine (introduced in 2016, way before the latest GenAI wave) that powers smart features across Adobe products. These mature Sensei features have proven valuable in AEM for years, automating routine tasks and providing data-driven guidance. In AEM, Sensei’s analytics and automation tools are primary used for asset management and content workflows. Use case examples include content auto tagging (smart tags), smart cropping of the images and providing asset insights, etc.

On the other hand, Adobe Firefly is Adobe’s new generative AI engine focused on creative content creation. Firefly and its enterprise offering (Firefly Services) provide AI models and APIs for generating new media from text prompts. In the scope of AEM, Firefly is embedded to help author new content and images on the fly. Use cases include generation of text variations and AI powered image creation.

AI-Powered Capabilities in AEM - Part 2

Let's review capabilities related to Digital Asset Management (DAM) & Delivery.

Content Hub + Adobe Express (Firefly)

AEM Content Hub provides a creative workspace integrated with Adobe Express. Teams can produce rich media using brand templates and styles, then leverage Firefly generative AI for on-brand images and variations. All of this without leaving AEM as central dashboard for experience creation and management. Authors can bring results straight into AEM Assets or Sites to use in pages and Content Fragments. [2][3][4]

Smart Tags for Assets (Auto-Tagging with Sensei)

Adobe Sensei auto-analyzes uploaded images and videos and assigns descriptive tags (e.g. objects, scenes, logos, actions in video). Tags are ranked by confidence, and authors can review/refine as needed. Goal is to improve discovery in search and cut down DAM administration time for authors. [5]

Smart Crop (AI-Driven Focal Crop)

Sensei-powered cropping detects the focal point in images and videos and automatically generates renditions for different aspect ratios (e.g., square, widescreen, mobile) while keeping the subject in frame. It’s ideal for responsive design and multi-channel delivery, but it require Dynamic Media license. [6]

Find Similar - Visual Search & Discovery for Assets

Find similar lets users drop an example image into AEM Assets and find visually similar content based on color, shape, composition, and objects. Over time, search improves results using learned patterns and prior behavior. [7]

AEM’s AI stack powered by mature Sensei features and Firefly generative tools turns DAM from a storage problem into a growth engine. Auto-tagging, smart crop, and “find similar” make vast libraries instantly usable, while Content Hub + Adobe Express puts on-brand creation and variations a click away. The result is faster asset production, easier discovery, and consistent, personalized delivery across channels, everything without leaving AEM.
